Collaboration Education Volunteer Guidelines
Welcome to Collaboration Education
We are grateful you have chosen to join us in supporting students and families through tutoring, mentoring, and enrichment opportunities. Your time, care, and commitment help create meaningful change in the lives of children who need support the most.
Our Mission
Collaboration Education Inc. is a not-for-profit, registered 501(c)(3) organization that provides expert tutoring, mentoring, and enrichment activities to economically disadvantaged K–12 students who are struggling academically.
We work in coordination with schools, families, and community organizations to help children succeed both inside and outside the classroom. Our programs take place in a variety of community settings and are designed to support academic growth, confidence, and long-term success.
We also provide opportunities for toddlers and their parents to engage in active, developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
Our Volunteers
Many of our volunteers are experienced educators who use their skills and expertise to support the individual needs of our students. At the same time, some of our most impactful volunteers come from entirely different professional backgrounds.
The common thread among all Collaboration Education volunteers is a love of working with children and a willingness to share their time, encouragement, and knowledge.
We welcome volunteers with experience in areas such as:
Tutoring and mentoring
Fundraising
Finance
Computer and technology support
Marketing and communications
Website support and administration
Collaboration Education provides resources, guidance, and ongoing support to all volunteers.
Time Commitment
Volunteer schedules may vary depending on availability and program needs.
Because stability and consistency are important for our students, tutors are asked to commit to one regular afternoon per week, approximately 1 to 1½ hours, with their assigned student.
Two tutors are assigned to each student whenever possible. This allows students to receive support more consistently while also providing flexibility if one tutor becomes unavailable.
If a schedule change or emergency arises, volunteers should contact the parent, site supervisor, or a Board member as soon as possible.
Volunteer Support
Board members maintain regular communication with volunteers and encourage collaboration among tutoring partners.
A shared document is created for each student so tutors can exchange updates and monitor progress together.
General meetings are held once or twice each year, giving volunteers the opportunity to:
Share experiences
Build connections
Exchange ideas and resources
Strengthen support networks
Teaching materials are provided based on each student’s individual needs. Volunteers are also welcome to use appropriate resources from their own classroom or professional experience.
We do not require the use of standardized tutoring programs. Volunteers are encouraged to use strategies and materials that best support their students.
Safety Guidelines
The safety and well-being of both students and volunteers is a top priority.
Tutoring sessions should always take place in approved public or supervised community settings arranged through Collaboration Education.
Volunteers should not:
Tutor students in private homes
Arrange personal outings with students or families
Transport students or parents in private vehicles or through public transportation
If concerns or emergencies arise, volunteers should contact a Board member immediately.
Confidentiality Policy
All interactions involving students, families, and schools are confidential and should remain within the context of Collaboration Education.
Student privacy must always be protected, including on social media and in photographs.
While activity photos may occasionally be used by the organization, they are taken in ways that do not reveal student identities.
Additional Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers may also participate in activities throughout the year, including:
Special trips for students and families
Summer enrichment projects
Educational events during school breaks
Community engagement activities
